What’s Involved in Piping for a Wedding?

Most brides like to have me play slow airs, and other appropriate tunes before the service as guests arrive, usually starting a half-hour before, and again after the service with more up-beat tunes as guests are received in line and/or leave for the reception. Some ask me to play the recession and/or recessional march as well. I’d be happy to any and all of that. (for no additional fee). It’s your wedding, so, I’ll try to do whatever you want. There would be a small additional fee to travel to another site, for example if you want me to play at both the ceremony and the reception sites as well.

My standard wedding fee starts at $250 which covers most weddings

other than those requiring extra travel and set-up time.

What’s Involved in Piping for a Funeral?

For a church funeral, I usually play before and after the service as guests arrive and depart. Any piping during the service would be included (and would sometimes have to be cleared with clergy). Tunes before the service would be mainly hymns, laments, slow marches, slow airs and Military Service tunes if appropriate. I will not charge an additional fee to play at the interment ceremony if it immediately follows a church service, unless a considerable amount of travel time is involved.

At the graveside service, I would usually be set up to play as the people arrive, stop when the mourners are gathered and the service is ready to start. Usually “Amazing Grace” or another hymn follows immediately after the end of the service, which I would follow by suitable slow marches, hymns and parting songs as the people leave; but again, I’m open to suggestions. If it is a military funeral and no honor guard bugler is available, I would bring my bugle to play Taps if you wish.

My standard fee for funerals starts at $250 whether involving church or other site, graveside or both. There could be a small additional fee for additional travel time beyond the local area.
